Findlay: Down by the Old Mill Stream

Laurie and I had some time to kill in Findlay Sunday morning so we walked around Riverside Park.
No more big diving board and the pool and the locker rooms have been renovated and were really nice!

Only $4 for adults to swim and $2 for kids! No "ice-cream candy" but the whole park looked really nice and well maintained.

Including the band shell, where a church service was being conducted. You can rent canoes and kayaks but the river is roped off so you don't go near the spillway where people died. And no more duckies to feed there -- Laurie says it's been discovered that bread is bad for them.
The Stumps time capsule from 1963 is still buried under the Tell Taylor Memorial, which is quite a bit more extensive than I remember. And I couldn't believe this was the site of the Green Mill Roller Rink but that's what the plaque said.

Part 2: Trip Down Memory Lane to Sidney OH July 2019

The courthouse square still must be one of the prettiest ones in the state.
What was Dad's saying about the Abbott apartment -- the north one on the east side on the west end of South Street or something like that? I believe those have been bulldozed to make way for a new jobs center but I couldn't remember if it was on North, South, East, or West Street so I might be wrong. I do think I found Rhees Clothes on the square though.
And I walked to Aunt Bertha's house

Before getting back in the car and heading out to Johnston Drive

We could still play a family golf game at the old country club on Port Jefferson Rd.
And with a last stop at the house Mom and Mary Jane grew up in, I headed back to I75 and onto Findlay.

Hope you enjoyed traveling down memory lane with me. :)

Part 1: Trip Down Memory Lane to Sidney Ohio July 2019

On my way to Findlay for the Camp Glen reunion, I decided to stop for lunch in Sidney where my grandparents and aunt and uncle once lived and where my parents met in high school -- lots of good memories of family times. When I got off the highway, my first stop was Mimi's apartment (I didn't go to Dorothy Love)

Next I drove down Spruce Street to Mary Jane and Bill's house.

Then up and around the corner to Grandma and Grandpa Abbott's house on Chestnut. It made me happy to see young boys playing on the bridge by the depot watching for trains just like my brothers and I had once upon a time.

Everything but the apartment looked pretty good! It was a hot summer day but I got out of the car and walked down Chestnut past the bridge where you used to be able to drive. Down to the other end of Chestnut Street I got out and walked down the alley to find Mary Jane and Bill's house on Fair Ave. Now if it's the one I think, it looked bad.

Or was it this house, which didn't look too great either?
I bet you can guess where I headed for lunch...

Yum! When Debbie comes in August, maybe we can get her to pick up a pie from the car hop. The lemon meringue really looked good but I stuck with old fashioned cream.
